cerec-crown

The dental crown has been a basic staple in the dental profession’s bag of tricks for many years. Getting a crown is probably one of the most common and well known of all dental procedures.

What is a Dental Crown and Why do I Need It?

A dental crown is a type of dental restoration when a tooth-shaped cap is placed over a decayed or damaged tooth. It entirely covers the tooth above the gum line. A dental crown can make your tooth stronger and improve its appearance. For example, a crown can strengthen a tooth that has a large filling when there isn’t enough of the original tooth to actually hold the filling. A crown can also be used to cover a tooth that is discolored or badly shaped; or to cover a dental implant.

Not only is the patient’s oral health improved by restoring and strengthening a tooth with a dental crown, but it will also look beautiful, like a brand new tooth.

Dental Crown: The Process

Two Appointments? Will it really take two appointments for Dr. Caye to finish your crown? Well … if he places a standard crown, yes. If he places a CEREC Crown, NO!

When you receive a standard dental crown, the process usually requires at least two separate appointments. Yes … that means lots of down time and we understand that’s not very convenient for anyone juggling work and family.

But, with a standard crown, impressions have to be made and then they’re sent to the dental lab to make your permanent crown. Yes … that means the goopy impressions will need to be taken and we understand no one likes that process at all!

It takes a couple of weeks to get that permanent crown made and returned to our office, so Dr. Caye will need to make you a temporary crown. Yes … that means it’s not as strong as your permanent crown will be, so it may crack or break. And it may even fall out. We do our best, but this is just part of the process. Please understand you need to have that temporary crown to prevent your tooth from being damaged more, so it’s a necessary step!

Typically a standard dental crown will last for approximately 10 years. Of course, this depends on your oral hygiene and proper care. But, it’s a long-term solution for a big problem.

CEREC Crown: New Technology and Only One Appointment!

Yes … you read that correctly!! You can get your beautiful crown created and fitted into your mouth in Only ONE Appointment!! Technology is a fabulous thing, isn’t it? And Dr. Caye and his Team have this state-of-the-art technology available in their Lee’s Summit office!

We know what you’re thinking: No Way! If it sounds too good to be true… blah, blah, blah.

It’s true! CEREC Crown (CEREC is short for: Chairside Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) … that’s why it’s been shortened!! The CEREC Crown is in high demand and the technology has proven itself as a powerful new tool in dentistry.

CEREC technology uses digital imaging (not goopy impressions) to scan the inside of your mouth to accurately pinpoint the precise dimensions of your new crown and fully customize an almost exact match of your natural tooth. When it’s placed over your damaged tooth, it provides a permanent replacement that is unnoticeable and can even be matched to the exact shade of your teeth.

There are some differences though, the CEREC Crown is considerably stronger, has an improved appearance, only requires one appointment, (no temporary), and provides a permanent replacement! All positive improvements from our perspective and our patients’ who have taken advantage of the CEREC Crown technology!

If you need a crown and want to see if you are a fit to take advantage of CEREC, call Premier Dental today and schedule an appointment with Dr. Caye.
